Matthew 17:21
I don't know about you, but this whole "move the mountain with a mustard seed" concept puzzles me. What's with that? I mean, dialing back to Jerusalem time, it would have been a perfect April Fools gag to tell people that by just "believing" in the ways of love, hope, grace, and faith that the mountain over yonder (southwest Jerusalem) would move to where you want it to move. Even better, "nothing will be impossible for you." Beard scratching. Frowning. Mumbling. Camels spitting. And that was only the reaction from the disciples. C'mon, really? Truly? My hunch is that most of the people listened to what this maverick rabbi was saying, but chose not to hear. Really hard to believe hocus-pocus-abracadabra-genie stuff. You know, like that Red Sea parting campfire tale. And as a result, most likely went about their... business.

Thankfully, we have evolved since then. You SEE, the good news is that, that was then. They were not "in the know" like we are today. They did not have access to the kind of things we do to explain and SPEAK into how things work, like: explosives, excavation, relocation, tectonic shifts, ozone disintegration or not enough fiber. You HEAR it all the time on Fox, CNN, MSNBC and Sanjay Guptah, MD (I really like that guy. Seems very likable. Good bedside manner.). And if they can't explain it all, there's always Google and your Facebook friends.
But...what if, just by chance Jesus was right about the power of faith and believing to "move the mountains" (of our dis-belief, sinful hearts and self-reliance) that stand in front of us? What if, just by chance Ghandi was right about the power of peaceful resistance and expression to "move the mountains" (of injustice and tyranny)? What if, just by chance Martin Luther King Jr. was right about the power of believing in dreams to "move the mountains" (of ignorance, bigotry and hatred)? What if, just by chance we all believed, in faith?
I know...it was Colonel Mustard in the temple with the candlestick!
